Design iconico
In 1927 René Herbst designed the revolutionary and functional “Chaise Sandows” seat furniture. The frames were nickel-plated tubular steel, the seat and back was made of rubber strips stretched taut and fastened to the frame by hooks at the end. René Herbst was a pioneer in the adaptation of simple industrial materials for furniture design. One of his favorite themes (chaise sandows) was the chair with seat and back formed by stretched elastic bands of the type used to fasten packages to a bicycle. This was one of the many versions. This chair, along with a matching high stool, was presented at the Salon d’ Automne, 1929. In all probability, it was first produced by Etablissements René Herbst.

E´nato a Parigi dove ha compiuto anche i suoi studi; nel 1908 inizió a collaborare con vari studi di architettura – prima a Parigi e successivamente a Londra e poi a Francoforte. Nel 1921 fece il suo debutto al “ Salone d´Autunno” dove presenta “un angolo riposante” al museo de Crillon. Dopo, in aggiunta alle sue varie esposizioni delle sue innovative creazioni di mobili in tubolare metallico ai vari “ salons”, realizzó diversi progetti architettonici: cinema, decorazioni d´interni di negozi, ristoranti, uffici e gallerie. Nel 1919 Herbst porta avanti il design moderno occupandosi di mobili di metallo, finestre ed illuminazione d´interni. Per quanto riguarda proprio il design dei mobili di metallo, nel 1926 possiamo riconoscere la sua completa maturazione nel suo rigoroso e funzionale design dei modelli cromati.
